Default Get Ground Control for free

Yes, it's old and the graphics are dated, but the original Ground Control is still one of the most exciting and immersive online RTS games ever made. Best of all the makers (Massive) have made it available for free here

Excerpt From Review: The ease of control really makes a difference in a game where flanking maneuvers and on the fly tactical decisions are very necessary. Tanks are more vulnerable from behind (stop giggling) and if you can slip some marines in behind a heavy Terradyne, they can really do some damage. The use of line of sight in the game is also a big plus. You can actually see how the units see by using the camera to zoom in and the follow a unit. It opens up the possibilities for ambushes and such and units up on hills do get an attack and defense bonus. There's so much more I could say here, but I think it's best to let you all explore the numerous possibilities yourself.

What do I get out of it? The online community is getting pretty small, I'd like to help it grow so this great game doesn't die.

Link redirected me to Microsoft.com.

I don't really agree with the purpose of this thread though... there are thousands of games that lost their online communities due to newer games. There will always be a couple of fans that never really want to let go. I know I was like that with Total Annihilation and Alpha Centauri (I think I'm going to go download that after I finish this post). Some games just didn't get the marketing to help spread the word about them.

Maybe if you built a time machine and advertised the game back when it was good...

Sorry there were too many http's in the link....I fixed it.
I agree, TA and Alpha Centauri were great games. Ground Control was made by a little Swedish company named Massive which just happened to get their first game exactly right.

The only reason I made this thread is that Massive has made the entire Ground Control game available as a free download. You not only get multiplayer but all the missions.

Yes it's an RTS...there is no base building, you just get units and a mission. In multiplayer you have up to four players on a side competing for domination of one of a variety of maps. It's very much like chess with heavy weapons.
